The historic first coinage series of independent Botswana, introduced in 1976 to mark the launch of the national currency (Pula/Thebe) and the departure from the South African Rand zone. Designed by the Royal Mint, the coins feature the crisp profile of the nation's first President, Sir Seretse Khama, on the obverse, paired with vivid depictions of local African wildlife and agricultural heritages on the reverse.
